All prints are signed and numbered and have a Certificate of Authenticity.

Story behind the prints...

Each December, commercial fishermen wait for the mullet to run. Cold fronts that drop the temperatures tell mullet that it is time to spawn. The fish bunch up into schools and have been known to reach 400 mullets in one school. The mullet are easy to catch in volume. A 6,000 pound haul can bring $8,000.

The fishermen are not after the fish, rather, their roe or eggs. These are a delicacy in Taiwan and are frozen and shipped in time for the Chinese New Year.

These commercial fishermen drove their pickup onto the beach, right up to the water line. They removed their rowboat from the truck bed and placed it in the water. One person stands in the water and holds the net while the boat was rowed in a semicircle. Once the rowboat reached the shore, the third fishermen removed the end of the net from the rowboat. Holding both ends, the fishermen pulled the net toward the center. They gathered the full net onto the beach so they could collect and sort the mullet.

Courtney Campbell Causeway Beach is on the Clearwater side of the Courtney Campbell Causeway that connects Clearwater to Tampa.

Mullet fishermen are common in Tampa Bay. Another favorite location is by the St. Petersburg Pier. They can be seen schooling in Vinoy Basin and the fishermen wait in their boats on the other side of the St. Petersburg Pier bridge.
