Maximo Park, St Petersburg, Florida

by Robert Neff

Maximo Park offers vista views of Boca Ciega Bay on Tampa Bay from St Petersburg, Florida. This is one of my favorite parks in Tampa Bay because it has calm waters that reflect the sun so well and is a bird refuge. There is an observation tower and walking paths, activity shelters to rent, a playground and new boat ramps.

The park is a mixture of green space and natal areas. The area is rich with history and has information boards that provide the background on the Tocobaga Indians and area. While walking the nature paths, the palm trees are kept natural and their dead palm fonds are allowed to hang from the tree.

The park is unique because it has one of the few Frisbee golf courses in the area and is aptly named Tocobaga Disc Golf Course after the Tocobaga Indians.

Maximo Park is located in St. Petersburg, Florida, the entrance is near the base of the Skyway Skyway Bridge. Take US-275, Exit 17. This is in South St. Petersburg just around the corner from 54th Ave and 34th Street South and is an easy stop on the way to the beach or to Bradenton-Sarasota.
